Today we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was on this day that the Mother of God was quietly born without original sin into this broken world. She was the dusk before the sunrise–the Chosen Vessel of Honor that would bear the Savior of the World.
Today is also the feast day of Saint Adrian of Nicomedia. Adrian was once a persecutor of Christians, but then became one himself–openly proclaiming his new faith and then dying for it in 306 A.D. His story is a powerful reminder that transformation is possible, even for those who seem furthest from grace.
Today, we pray for all those who feel far from grace—those who doubt their worth, fear their past, or struggle to believe they are part of God’s plan. Through the gentle birth of Mary, may they be reminded that God begins great things in quiet places. Through the bold conversion of Saint Adrian, may they find courage to step into faith, even when it costs everything.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O God,
You gave us Mary, Your Mother
as a profound example of grace.
We ask her to guide us on our path to You
and intercede on our behalf,
and may her gentle presence remind us
that holiness often begins in silence.
You also gave us Saint Adrian
as an example of deep conversion.
May his bold witness help us
to stand firm when faith costs us something on earth.
Teach us to trust your timing,
to welcome grace in unexpected places,
and to live with hearts open to transformation.
Mary, refuge of sinners, pray for us.
Saint Adrian, pray for us.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Tomorrow’s saint of the day is Saint Peter Claver.
